Writing and Computers

A computer is a tool and should not get in the way of your writing. Computers can help in arranging manuscripts, sending out material and finding information.

Using Word

Word Tips is searchable and topic related, plus you may sign up for a newsletter.

Bend Word to you Will is a giant (200 pages) techy manual available for download. It's made for the Mac but is useful for everyone.

Directories & Lists

Use Poets & Writers Directory to send a note to a writer whose work you enjoy or become part of the directory yourself.

At New Pages.com you can find reviews of literary magazines.

www.duotrope.com qualifies as a supersite.

It is a directory of 2400+ journals that is searchable and contains organized information on submission policies and links to the journal site

With Poet's House you can find a searchable directory of poetry publishers.

Subscribe to the Creative Writing Opportunities list (CRWOPPS) on Yahoo to find out about upcoming deadlines for competitions and new journals.

At LibraryThing you can catalog your books -- because all writers need to read -- and catch up with other readers who share your interests.

And you can look for discussion lists to join, start your own Yahoo Group, or find readings on calendars such as Pittsburgh Poetry Calendar.
